Darmstadt land Wolfsburg’s Franjic on loan

Newly promoted Bundesliga side SV Darmstadt 98 have picked up another Bundesliga player on loan.

After securing the services of VfB Stuttgart striker Luca Pfeiffer yesterday, SV Darmstadt 98 have picked up another Bundesliga player to help bolster their roster ahead of the coming Bundesliga season. The Lilies have remained persistent following a disastrous pre-season campaign and brought in VfL Wolfsburg midfielder Bartol Franjic on loan for the season. The Croatian youth international can play both in defensive midfield and in the back-chain.


The 23-year-old moved to Germany’s green company team last summer for a hefty transfer fee reported to be around €6-7 million. VfL trainer Niko Kovac nevertheless had little use for the the Croatian U21 captain. Kovac’s Croat compatriot made just five league appearances. He did garner one assist in three starts.

“The people in charge made an effort to recruit me and immediately gave me a good feeling,” Franjic noted in a club statement, ” Last year I was already allowed to get a taste of the Bundesliga. Now I want to take the next step in my development in Darmstadt and help the team to achieve class preservation.”

“With Bartol, we get a player who is strong in the duels and has good positional play,” SVD sporting director Carsten Wehlmann added, “Despite his age, he does bring a lot of experience and will give our game further stability.”
