Monaco attempting to hijack Chelsea’s move for Deivid Washington, player prefers move to Principality club

Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna is reporting that AS Monaco are attempting to hijack Chelsea’s move for Santos’ Deivid Washington (18).

As reported by Globo and Fabrizio Romano on Friday, Chelsea were on the verge of completing the signing of the young Brazilian forward. The London club’s €20m offer was reportedly accepted and the completion of the deal seemed imminent.

However, despite a full verbal agreement with Santos, Monaco have jumped in before the signing of the deal. The Principality club have already worked with Santos this summer with Jean Lucas returning to Brazil. It is thought that discussions over Washington were held at this time.

Monaco had to improve their offer to match Chelsea’s bid, and the deal is now reaching a crucial stage. Washington prefers a move to Monaco over Chelsea, according to Aouna, despite the latter offering a more lucrative deal to the young Brazilian.

With the arrival of Thiago Scuro as sporting director at Monoaco, there is an increased focus on the Brazilian market at the Principality club.
