Leicester agree deal to sign Wolves defender Conor Coady

Leicester City have reached an agreement to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Conor Coady.

According to The Telegraph reporter John Percy, Leicester have agreed a transfer fee worth an initial £7.5 million with Wolves – a figure that could rise to £8.5m if the Foxes secure a swift return to the Premier League.

Wolves had rejected an initial bid from Leicester for the former Liverpool man, but both clubs have now found common ground on transfer terms.

Coady has been a spectacular signing for Wolves since joining from Huddersfield Town for a fee of around €3m in the summer of 2015.

He has racked up over 300 appearances for the West Midlands club, contributing seven goals and seven assists in that span, but his time as a Wolves regular ended abruptly two seasons ago.

The 30-year-old centre-back, whose impressive performances over the years has won him ten caps with the England national team, spent last season on loan at Everton.

He made 24 Premier League appearances for the Toffees, helping them avoid relegation in a massively underwhelming campaign.

Despite his solid displays in Merseyside, Coady’s eight-year association with Wolves will end this summer, with the defender poised to begin a new chapter with Leicester in the Championship.

The Foxes are keen to mount a promotional challenge next season as they seek a quick return to the English top flight, and Coady could prove a solid acquisition for the club.

Coady will replace Caglar Soyuncu, who is expected to join La Liga giants Atletico Madrid when his contract at King Power Stadium runs out at the end of this month.

The 27-year-old centre-back is not the only high-profile player expected to depart Leicester this summer. Six other players, including Youri Tielemans, will follow the defender through the King Power exit at the end of this month.

Leicester are also in talks to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks while Manchester City’s backup goalkeeper Zack Steffen is attracting interest from the Foxes.
