Aston Villa have been raiding Spain for the past 12 months, and it has gone up a gear since Unai Emery became manager of the English club. First, it was Diego Carlos last summer, then Álex Moreno in January. Just this week, Monchi has been confirmed as Villa’s President of football operations.
But Villa are not done yet. Relevo are reporting that Emery wants Nico Williams to join Villa. The 20-year-old winger started 32 league games and got 10 goals and assists for Athletic Club in 2022-23; impressive numbers for the exciting attacker in a season where he was part of the Spain national team.
Emery is said to have met Williams in person last week at a hotel, where he tried to convince the winger to join the Birmingham outfit. Despite Emery’s best attempts, Williams is very happy in the Basque region and has no plans of leaving any time soon. Bilbao are trying to tie him down to a new contract.
