Bayern Munich defender Lucas Hernandez has expressed his desire to move to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, according to Sky Germany.
The 27-year-old is currently under contract until 2024. But the France international has told the German giants that he will not renew his contract with the club.
Since January, fans and pundits had anticipated a contract extension for Hernandez.
However, Bayern’s disappointing season and recent changes at the top have created uncertainty and an opening for the defender to leave.
Despite Bayern’s efforts, they have failed to convince him to stay.
Bayern Munich will demand a transfer fee of €60 million, along with additional bonuses for Hernandez.
It is worth noting that the Bavarians had initially acquired him from Atletico Madrid for a hefty sum of €80 million.
Hernandez has spent four successful seasons with Bayern, winning the Bundesliga title every season.
The Marseille-born star leaves behind a significant void at centre-back. Hernandez’s departure will impact their dynamics as he was the only left-footed central defender on their books.
Also, his departure will affect the left-back position, where he was a reliable alternative to Alphonso Davies.
It is now up to PSG to advance negotiations with an offer, and Bayern will allow the player to leave.
Die Rekordmeister have left it up to the Ligue 1 champions to make their opening offer and initiate negotiations.
And then the departure will force Bayern to turn their attention to his France teammate, Benjamin Pavard.
Pavard also wants to leave Bayern Munich, and his future is uncertain. He also has one year left on his deal and wants to go.
Pavard has interest from several clubs around Europe, including Inter Milan and Liverpool but has not yet decided on his future.
Although, unlike Hernandez, no club is pushing desperately for Pavard yet.
Bayern are preparing for a summer upheaval that could see other stars like Sadio Mane and Yann Sommer leave the club.
Real Madrid are pursuing Davies, but Bayern are adamant they do not want to sell the Canadian international. Barcelona are after Joshua Kimmich. Bayern don’t want to sell him too.
