Speaking at a press conference, transcribed by Le Parisien, Christopher Nkunku (25) has said that he isn’t surprised by Paris Saint-Germain’s interest in Julian Nagelsmann.
The German coach is one of the favourites to take over from Christophe Galtier, whose departure from PSG is yet to be officialised. Les Parisiens have targeted other managers during their search, and have notably been turned down by Zinédine Zidane – again – according to Le Parisien.
Nagelsmann is now the favourite for the role, although Xabi Alonso and Luis Henrique have also been linked with taking the managerial hot seat at the Parc des Princes. Nkunku came through the ranks at PSG before making the move to Red Bull Leipzig, where he played under Nagelsmann between 2019 and 2021.
Speaking ahead of France’s match against Gibraltar on Friday, Nkunku spoke about Les Parisiens’ interest in his former coach, whilst also praising Nagelsmann’s impact on his own career.
“He is a coach that helped me develop massively. He is focused on football, on every tactical aspect. He expects a lot as a coach. He likes attacking football, wants his team to create a lot of chances and find itself with lots of players in the opposition box. We also saw his good work with Bayern Munich. I’m not surprised that a club like PSG are turning towards him,” said Nkunku.
