Yann Sommer optimistic about Bayern Munich future

Yann Sommer remains optimistic about his Bayern Munich future, Kicker reports. 

The Swiss international was bought in last winter when number one Manuel Neuer broke his leg during a skiing accident. However, it’s always said that when the Neuer returns he will automatically take the number one spot once again. 

Despite this, Sommer is optimistic in regard to his future at the club. 

“I still have two years of contract and haven’t been here that long. But I’m not worried at the moment,” said the 34-year-old. 

Sommer agreed when asked if he needed a permanent place in a squad in order to keep his spot with Switerzland. Perhaps, the 34-year-old is ready to fight for a starting position? 

However, with the European Championships on the horizon, it would make sense for Sommer to seek regular football elsewhere right away. He cannot afford to sit on the bench at Bayern as his compatriots Gregor Kobel (Borussia Dortmund) and Jonas Omlin (Gladbach) will both continue to play at their clubs.

Clubs such as Manchester United have been linked with a move for Sommer. Their interest in the Swiss dates back to his Gladbach days. The Red Devils have long monitored him as a possible replacement or competitor to David de Gea.
