Lucas Hernández returned to Säbener Straße on Wednesday to begin his rehabilitation after injuring his cruciate ligament for France against Australia at the World Cup.
Hernández’s injury occurred two weeks ago in France’s opening World Cup game. The defender then had an operation in Innsbruck, Austria. He will now begin the rehabilitation process. The injury affected Hernández so badly that he even thought of retiring as he has experienced 14 injuries since his move from Atletico Madrid to Bayern Munich in 2019.
The 26-year-old has only played 11 games for Bayern this season as he suffered from a torn muscle bundle which kept him out from September until late October.
Hernández is Bayern’s record signing joining in 2019 for €80m, he has spent some of his time at left-back as well as centre-back but has never really been able to make either position his own due to the constant injuries.
