Liverpool-bound defender Jeremy Jacquet is set to undergo shoulder surgery after suffering an injury while playing for Stade Rennais.
The 20-year-old was forced off during Rennes’ Ligue 1 fixture against Lens on February 7 after landing awkwardly on his left shoulder.
Following medical examinations, Rennes have confirmed that surgery has been scheduled in the coming days. The French club issued a brief statement wishing the defender a speedy recovery.
The operation is expected to rule Jacquet out for the remainder of the domestic season.
Liverpool, who agreed a deal for the centre-back in January, remain in close contact with Rennes’ medical staff.
Provided the procedure goes smoothly, Jacquet will be fit in time for the start of pre-season in early July.
Recovery from shoulder surgery of this nature typically takes between eight and 12 weeks, although timelines can vary.
Jacquet is due to complete his move to Anfield on July 1 after Liverpool struck a deal worth £55 million plus add-ons.
He has signed a long-term contract until 2031, with the option of a further year. The French youth international is viewed as part of Liverpool’s long-term defensive planning.
Jacquet has emerged as one of the most promising young defenders in France.
He had started every Ligue 1 match when available this season and made 19 top-flight appearances for his boyhood club.
The timing of the setback offers a degree of reassurance for Liverpool.
With several months before he is required to report for pre-season, there is a clear window for rehabilitation.
Both clubs will hope the surgery resolves the issue fully and allows Jacquet to begin his Liverpool career without further complications.
