Joao Pedro hasn’t pulled any punches following Chelsea’s disappointing draw to Burnley
Joao Pedro has bemoaned Chelsea’s lack of game management. Zian Flemming salvaged a draw for Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon, pulling back an equaliser in the dying embers of stoppage time.
The Blues have now surrendered leads in back-to-back Premier League games on home turf, both of which were to newly-promoted teams. It’s been a problem for much of the season; Chelsea have dropped 19 points from winning positions in the English top flight, 17 of them at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Pedro made no attempt to hide his frustration. The 24-year-old striker, who had put the west Londoners ahead in the opening minutes, said: “We are very frustrated with the result, and especially because we did exactly the same in the last game.
“We did enough to win the game, but we couldn’t find the second goal that we needed. We need to find solutions in these types of games, because we need to earn points in the Premier League.

“We need to win these types of games, and we are just very frustrated that we weren’t able to see the game out [from a winning position]. I think the red card made things difficult, but we still had enough about us to get the win.
“Before the red card, we should have put the game to bed. When you go to a man less, of course, things get more difficult.
“I didn’t really see the incident too clearly, but we need to learn how to manage the game in those situations because, regardless of having a man less, we are Chelsea and these type of games at home we have to win.”
Pedro continued his excellent vein of form at the weekend, scoring his fifth in six Premier League games. Across all competitions, the Brazil international has already notched 22 direct goal contributions.
“Like I said, I’m always happy to score,” he continued. “It’s just frustrating when you don’t have the points to go with it. But I’m very happy at Chelsea.
“The group understands how I like to play, and I feel very comfortable because I have a great understanding with my team-mates here. Whenever I play, first of all, I always try and help my team-mates and then if I can score goals to help the side, then I’m very happy.
“I was very pleased to score but it wasn’t enough and we’re frustrated we didn’t get the three points to go with the goal.”
Pedro will hope to pick up from where he left off when Chelsea lock horns with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium next weekend. Meanwhile, Liam Rosenior will look to better prepare the Blues for a game which could have huge ramifications on the season.
