Jake Paul has issued an update after undergoing surgery following his loss to Anthony Joshua. The American was stopped in the sixth round by the former heavyweight champion in an incredibly one-sided bout.
The Briton found himself frustrated through the early stages of the fight, but then knocked Paul down twice in the fifth round. Joshua continued to pile on the pressure in the sixth, landing a powerful right-handed punch which knocked the YouTuber to the canvas to end the contest.
In his post-fight interview, footage captured the 28-year-old spitting blood as he admitted that he had broken his jaw. Heading to hospital to receive treatment, an x-ray indicated that he had broken it in two places.
Paul Speaks Out After Surgery
After undergoing surgery to fix the damage inflicted by Joshua, Paul shared an update on social media about his wounds. Thanking the team at Miami University Hospital, he added that he needed to eat liquids for the next week as he recovers.
“Just got out of surgery,” he wrote on X. “Everything went smooth. Thanks for all the love. Lots of pain and stiffness. Gotta eat liquids for 7 days.
“S/o to the amazing team at Miami University hospital. Everyone was so gracious and caring.”
In a separate post on Instagram, ‘The Problem Child’ was all smiles but revealed that surgeons had inserted two titanium plates into each side of his jaw, adding that some his teeth had been removed. Sports medical doctor Brian Sutterer, who offered a detailed breakdown of Paul’s injury, had stated that they might have been needed to realign the fractured bones and joints.
The boxer said: “Surgery went well thanks for all the love and support. 2 titanium plates on each side. Some teeth removed. Have to have only liquids for 7 days so no @doghausdogs.”
