In an unfortunate reminder of the fact that COVID remains relevant in the sporting world, FC Bayern München stars Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzka have been sent home from DFB camp after testing positive.

Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzka have been dropped from the German national team after testing positive for COVID-19. The two Bayern and national team starters were sent home on Wednesday after returning positive tests. A fresh round of testing is now planned for the entire squad and Bundestrainer Hansi Flick may soon find himself without more players.
Neuer’s replacement has already been confirmed. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim net-minder Oliver Baumann will head to camp to serve alongside back-ups Marc André ter Stegen and Kevin Trapp. The German FA promised that a nomination to replace Goretzka (and possibly others) will come soon.
Both Neuer and Goretzka are reported to be asymptomatic.
