After conceding 18 goals in his last five games, Kauã Santos will be given a break when Eintracht Frankfurt face Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Instead, Michael Zetterer will start in goal, Eintracht coach Dino Toppmöller confirmed at his pre-match press conference.
“We made this decision after several discussions because we felt it might be important for Kauã to take a step back right now. There’s been a lot coming at him recently,” Toppmöller explained, noting that the club is in a “luxury situation” when it comes to goalkeepers.
“We have three top goalkeepers. ‘Zetti’ already played our first few matches and exuded great calmness – he also did very well with the ball. That’s why we made this decision, also in Santos’ best interest,” Toppmöller added.
Zetterer started Eintracht’s first four games of the season before Kauã Santos took over following his return from a long-term injury.
