As reported by Sky Germany, Borussia Mönchengladbach have sacked head coach Gerardo Seoane with immediate effect.
The Swiss coach was under mounting pressure following a winless opening three games at the beginning of the season.
Last weekend’s 0-4 loss at home to Werder Bremen was seemingly the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Sporting director Roland Virkus dodged questions about Seoane’s future on Sunday, stating: “There’s no positive trend here. What we did well [earlier in the season] was not to be seen here today. We lost 0-4 and that’s going to hurt for a while. Now we have to process the whole thing, let it sink in and take another look at it.”
It was reported by Bild that the Gladbach board were going to give Seoane until after this weekend’s match against Bayer Leverkusen. However, they must have seen the situation as unsavable and therefore relieved Seoane of his duties.
Gladbach ended last season on a whimper, and it hasn’t got any better this campaign. The club have now gone five Bundesliga games without a goal and are winless in 10.
