Official | Yvon Mvogo returns to Lorient three months after his departure

Switzerland international goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo (31) has re-joined FC Lorient on a two-year deal, just three months after leaving the club at the end of his contract – as announced by the Breton club.

The former RB Leipzig man had been a free agent since June 1, following the expiry of his previous deal with Les Merlus. Lorient, promoted back to Ligue 1 this summer, had been in the market for a new No.1 after conceding heavily in their opening fixtures, including a 7-1 defeat to Lille on Saturday.

Back in July, club president Loïc Féry had appeared to rule out a return for Mvogo, stating: “It’s not just a question of money. Yvon hasn’t shown us that he is particularly interested in the project and there are limits beyond which we cannot go.” But the Swiss shot-stopper has now made a U-turn, putting pen to paper until 2027.

Capped 11 times by the Nati, Mvogo was ever-present for Lorient in Ligue 2 last season, making 33 appearances. He will immediately slot back into the starting role, with Benjamin Leroy and Bingourou Kamara set to provide cover as third- and second-choice keepers respectively. Mvogo is expected to return to training on Tuesday.
