Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto is ‘one of the most talented young players in the Premier League’, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The 19-year-old only arrived at Elland Road over the summer after completing a £3.8 million switch from FC Zurich and is still waiting for his first start for his new employers.
What is the latest news involving Gnonto?
Gnonto was handed his first minutes in a Leeds shirt off the substitute’s bench against Liverpool recently before being brought on at half-time in the thrilling match at home to Bournemouth.
The Italy international showcased his truly top-class potential in the victory over the Cherries, setting up Crysencio Summerville for a late winner with a perfectly weighted through ball.
Leeds manager Jesse Marsch was full of praise for Gnonto after the epic 4-3 win, stating that he has a ‘real intelligence on the pitch’.

“Willy continues to grow within our group,” said Marsch. “People see that he has talent and quality, but also, he has real intelligence on the pitch, so for a young man he’s incredibly intelligent.
Gnonto will perhaps have been disappointed not to have been handed his first start against Wolves in the Carabao Cup last time out, though.
What has Jones said about Gnonto?
Jones believes that Gnonto is likely to ‘come off the bench’ against Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend and has tipped him to illustrate his ability in the new year.

He told GiveMeSport: “I imagine Gnonto will come off the bench in that one and look to make an impact as he has done and then, to be honest, start afresh after the World Cup.
“There’s no doubt that he’s showing he’s up to it, he’s one of the most talented young players in the Premier League, and I think he’ll be ready in the new year to show us that.”
Do Leeds need additional firepower?
Leeds have found the back of the net 19 times in their opening 13 Premier League fixtures, meaning they have out-scored fifth-placed Manchester United.
However, only Rodrigo has found the back of the net over three times in the league, and Gnonto, who is valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, could provide an additional goal threat.
Star striker Patrick Bamford has struggled with significant injury issues for around 18 months now and Marsch can’t rely on him to lead the line week in, week out.
Therefore, having Gnonto, who earns £16,000-per-week, fully up to speed could prove to be extremely useful for Leeds as they look to pull further away from the relegation zone.
