£44m star ‘would have been brilliant’ at Goodison Park

Everton have missed the boat when it comes to Chelsea striker Armando Broja, believes journalist Paul Brown.

The Toffees continue to be linked with a move for the 21-year-old after looking at him in the summer, and while Brown thinks he would be a brilliant addition, he cannot see him leaving Stamford Bridge in January.

What is the latest news involving Broja?

CBS reporter Ben Jacobs recently reported that Everton are monitoring Broja ahead of the January transfer window.

The above comes after more than one outlet claimed that the Toffees wanted to sign the Albanian, who is valued at around £44m by the CIES Football Observatory, during the summer.

According to the i, Everton were just one Premier League club who were interested in Broja, who spent last season out on loan at Southampton.

He remained at Chelsea, though, and has since gone on to sign a new long-term deal with the west London outfit.

What has Brown said about Broja and Everton?

Brown thinks Broja is no longer an attainable target for Everton, with the centre-forward currently getting game time at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “The problem there is that Broja has been playing for Chelsea. He wants to have a future there.

“It would be a surprise if Chelsea suddenly let him go in January, so I think that ship has possibly sailed, which is sad because I think it would have been a great signing, especially on loan. If they could have signed him on loan, I think that would have been brilliant for Everton in the summer.”

Do Everton need Broja?

They need someone, whether it is the £78,000-a-week Chelsea youngster, who has made 18 appearances in all competitions for the Blues this season, or someone else.

Star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin cannot stay fit at the minute, though manager Frank Lampard hopes to have him available straight after the World Cup.

“He has been getting through with some issues, but the knee is probably the most prominent injury that we want to get right, which is similar to what he had before and it’s been aggravated, so this period gives us time to get it back right,” Lampard recently said (via MailOnline).

“We hope the break comes at a good time for him and we expect him back for Wolves on Boxing Day.”

The Merseyside club did, of course, manage to bring in Neal Maupay during the summer, but the Frenchman has only been able to score one goal so far this season. That, and the above, shows that Lampard probably needs to add to his squad in January.
