£34m World Cup star has ‘raised price tag’ at Anfield

Liverpool target Sofyan Amrabat has “probably raised his price tag” with a stellar World Cup campaign, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Having attracted interest on the back of Morocco’s World Cup semi-final run the Fiorentina midfielder could be on the move in January with Premier League clubs reportedly interested in the star who could cost €40m (£34m) according to Fabrizio Romano.

What’s the latest news involving Amrabat?

A tough-tackling defensive midfielder, Amrabat played every minute of Morocco’s World Cup campaign before the Atlas Lions were cruelly knocked out in the semi-finals against France.

The first African nation to reach the last four of the World Cup in its 90-year history, Morocco were indebted to the performances of midfield man Amrabat.

Key to Walid Regragui’s often impenetrable Morocco backline, Amrabat’s exploits while in Qatar have increased interest in the midfielder and almost certainly raised his price tag.

Currently plying his trade with Serie A side Fiorentina, the 26-year-old featured in all but two of La Viola’s league matches before the World Cup break.

One of the interested parties is Liverpool according to Foot Mercato, who could turn to Amrabat as a quick fix for their ever-growing midfield problems.

A combination of injuries and ageing players have caused Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp numerous problems in the first part of the season, with Amrabat seen as a potential solution for the Reds.

What has O’Rourke said about Amrabat to Liverpool?

Expected to reshuffle their midfield in the next two transfer windows, O’Rourke believes Liverpool could target World Cup breakout star Amrabat in January.

However, speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the transfer insider believes Amrabat’s World Cup performances have increased the midfielder’s potential cost.

“The only thing is Amrabat has probably raised his price tag as well in the process. If he can show that type of form that has been shown from Morocco, I’m sure there will be a lot of takers for him.”

There is a chance Liverpool will face tough competition for the former Feyenoord and Club Brugge midfielder’s signature, with other Premier League sides beginning to show interest.

O’Rourke added: “I’m sure there will be other clubs looking at the Fiorentina midfielder as well. Spurs were strongly linked with him in the summer transfer window as well.”

Where would Amrabat fit in at Liverpool?

Fixing Liverpool’s midfield has been the perennial problem for Klopp and Liverpool, with blaming the lack of depth in that area as a reason for their shortcomings last season.

Liverpool played every match they possibly could in the 2021/22 campaign, but ended the season with just two trophies to their name.

Injuries hampered the Reds’ chances of increased silverware, with the likes of Naby Keïta, Thiago Alcântara and Fabinho all spending time on the sidelines.

As Premier League clubs gear up for a busy January transfer window, there are suggestions some of Liverpool’s ailing midfielders could leave the club.

With his contract due to expire at the end of the season Keïta looks likely to leave Anfield in the coming months, while Fabinho has also been linked with a move away from Merseyside.

Such departures would leave room in the squad and free up finances for the January window, with Amrabat currently fancied to take up the reins in Liverpool’s midfield.
