£20m star has ‘caught Ten Hag’s eye’ at Old Trafford

Manchester United have evidently been impressed by what they have seen so far from Leeds United’s Tyler Adams, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The midfielder has been linked with a shock move to Old Trafford in recent weeks following an impressive start to his time in west Yorkshire.

What is the latest news involving Adams?

Adams only arrived at Leeds from RB Leipzig over the summer after completing a £20 million switch but has already reportedly found his way onto the Red Devils’ radar.

Football Insider have claimed that Erik ten Hag’s charges are ‘keeping close tabs’ on the USA international, a player who they are said to have a ‘long-time interest’ in dating back to his Leipzig days.

It’s believed that United are ‘continuing to monitor’ Adams’ progress at Leeds as they shortlist potential central midfield targets.

The engine room operator signed a five-year contract upon his arrival at Leeds, leaving the Whites in an extremely strong position around the negotiating table should United make a formal approach.

Ten Hag was unsuccessful in his attempts to sign Frenkie de Jong in the previous transfer window and may be forced to move on to alternative targets when the market re-opens for business.

What has O’Rourke said about Adams?

O’Rourke has informed GiveMeSport that he believes Adams has ‘caught the eye’ of the United hierarchy and that he’s been one of Leeds’s ‘better performers’ in 2022/23.

He said: “He’s full of energy, has got a great engine on him as well, and as I said, I think he’s been one of Leeds’s better performers so far this season.

“So, obviously those performances have caught the eye of Manchester United, but I’m sure Leeds are pretty confident that they’ll be able to keep hold of Tyler Adams going forward.”

Would Adams be a good signing?

Adams was previously labelled a “monster” by journalist Tomi Oladipo, and when assessing his underlying numbers, it’s easy to understand why.

As per FBref, the 5 foot 9 ace has ranked in the 95th percentile for blocks, 90th for tackles and 83rd for attempted passes amongst his positional peers over the last year.

The Leeds star may not hog the headlines through goals and assists, yet he certainly contributes defensively, adding stability to the middle of the park.

It remains to be seen if United make a formal approach for Adams and attempt to prise away one of their rivals’ star players.
