Of course, we are yet to see the best of Liverpool’s new central defender in Giovanni Leoni. The young Italian, born and bred in Rome, played just 81 minutes under the guidance of Arne Slot before picking up an unfortunate ACL injury against Southampton in the League Cup. 2006-born, Leoni is a fantastic ball winner aerially and will likely be the long-term replacement for Ibrahima Konate, who is likely to leave Anfield in the years to come.

An assured presence – perhaps thanks to his previous exploits in the middle of the park – at the back for the west Londoners, not only is he defensively sound, but is terrific on the ball, attributed to his smooth athleticism. Acheampong’s style of play is characterised by a high-energy front-footedness and his intelligence allows him to seldom be caught out of possession.

Liverpool supporters are wondering what they’ll do without the talismanic nature of Mohamed Salah once the Egypt international eventually departs. Despite being just 19 years of age, Bergvall continues to be a sensible head in quite a frantic engine room. He has all the makings of an athlete that can operate at the top level for years.
