Arsenal will ‘100%’ look to sell Viktor Gyokeres in 2027, and believes they would have already sold him last summer if they were able to sign Julian Alvarez.
The Sweden international joined the club in a £64m deal from Sporting CP in the summer of 2025, and led the club to their first Premier League title in 22 years as their top scorer with 21 goals in all competitions in his first campaign at the club.
However, many fans and pundits were left underwhelmed by his overall play and lack of technical qualities, which saw him dropped towards the end of the season and at the start of this season, with Kai Havertz preferred as the starting striker.
The Gunners were also keen to add a new forward to their squad this past summer, but Atletico Madrid star Alvarez opted to stay in Madrid as he couldn’t secure a dream move to Barcelona, rejecting the chance to return to the Premier League.
Gyokeres was handed his first Premier League start of the season against Everton, as Mikel Arteta’s side claimed a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Ezri Konsa and Gabriel, moving them level on points with Man City at the top of the table, sitting behind them only on goal difference.
But during the game, Gyokeres struggled once again, and while appearing on talkSPORT during the game, former Aston Villa star Agbonlahor slaughtered the forward for ‘running in slow motion’, and admitted that he felt the north London club wanted to get rid.

“Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ,” he said.
“Looks like he’s like running in slow motion, isn’t he? Looks like he can’t run.
“Can he hold the ball up? Yes, he can, but he will be one that won’t be at the club next season. Yeah, 100%.
“They would have got rid of him this season if they could have for Alvarez. If Alvarez wanted to come and hadn’t turned Arsenal down, they would have said, I would give you Gyokeres and money.”
Gyokeres Future at Arsenal Looks Bleak
There have been question marks about Gyokeres ever since halfway through his first campaign, because despite scoring goals, he doesn’t do it frequently enough, against better opponents, and does everything else relatively poorly.
It was no surprise to see the club chasing alternative options, or to see him ousted from the lineup as soon as an alternative was available, and with his slow start to this campaign, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him moved on during the next transfer window.
The Gunners will continue to look for upgrades, and Gyokeres will want to be playing regularly during the peak years of his career. It could well be that Agbonlahor is bang on the money with his statement, and this could be the beginning of the end for Gyokeres at Arsenal.
