£120k-a-week star now expected to ‘extend stay’ at St James’ Park – GiveMeSport

Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes is ‘loving’ his time at St James’ Park and is likely to sign a contract extension, according to journalist Dean Jones.

While the Magpies spent more than £120million during the summer transfer window, it seems head coach Eddie Howe has set his sights on tying one of his key men down to fresh terms.

What’s the latest news involving Guimaraes?

According to Football Insider, Newcastle are preparing to offer Guimaraes a club-record contract ahead of the winter window.

The report suggests the Magpies are planning to make the eight-cap Brazil international the highest-paid player in their history by tabling a deal worth £200,000-per-week.

Guimaraes only joined Newcastle in January, completing a £40million move from French giants Lyon, and has already made a lasting impression on Tyneside.

The central midfielder grabbed a brace during the 5-1 thrashing of Brentford earlier this month and has been a regular starter when fit.

Although Newcastle are preparing to head to the negotiating table, Guimaraes’ current contract – which is worth £120,000-per-week – is not due to expire until the summer of 2026.

What has Dean Jones said about Guimaraes?

Jones understands that Guimaraes has enjoyed the start to his Newcastle career and has no regrets over swapping Ligue 1 for the Premier League.

The transfer insider believes the 24-year-old is likely to pen a new contract once the Magpies put forward an official proposal.

When asked for an update on Guimaraes’ situation, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “From what I hear, he’s loving it.

“He’s glad he made the move and I think he probably will extend his stay.”

Has Guimaraes been linked with a move away from Newcastle?

Due to Guimaraes’ contract situation and his importance to Howe, who is approaching a year in charge of Newcastle, a January departure is off the table.

But that has not stopped clubs sniffing around and the South American has revealed he held conversations with La Liga giants Real Madrid during the latter stages of the summer transfer window, while the Magpies insisted he was not for sale and is valued at more than £80million.

Barcelona and Manchester City could reportedly test Newcastle’s resolve further down the line as well, but the Tyneside outfit are under no pressure to sanction his exit and supporters should not be fearful over whether Guimaraes will be leaving St James’ Park in the not-too-distant future with that being the case.
