The DFB have confirmed that Borussia Dortmund forward Youssoufa Moukoko has withdrawn from the Germany U21 squad due to injury.
The 17-year-old will not feature in the U21’s match against England U21 but will instead arrive back in Dortmund for further tests. It’s a massive blow for both the player and BVB who already have a long injury list that includes many senior players. As of Monday, it is unsure whether the young forward will be available for Dortmund’s game against Köln this weekend.
Dortmund were hopeful to see the return of Julian Brandt, Gregor Kobel, and Salih Özcan this weekend. The news of Moukoko’s withdrawal will certainly put a dampener on the return of three first-team players. What’s more, this will put increasing pressure on Anthony Modeste who will have to step up against his former side should the 17-year-old be ruled out.
If the return of Brandt, Kobel, and is confirmed, BVB’s injury list includes Raphaël Guerreiro, Mahmoud Dahoud, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Marco Reus, Mateu Morey, and Sébastien Haller.
