Youssouf Fofana responds to rumours of Monaco departure

L’Équipe linked AS Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana (24) with a move away from AS Monaco on Thursday, and the French international took the opportunity to respond to the rumours in a pre-match press conference on Friday.

Fofana, who this season has become a fully-fledged France international, has been linked with a summer move away from the Principality club. The former Strasbourg midfielder has a contract that runs until 2025, and in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News journalist Luke EntwistleFofana said he intends to see that deal until the end, even if the club fail to earn Champions League football for next season.

I don’t think my season is linked to the club’s objectives (reaching the Champions League). It’s a bit of a well-worn phrase but I am under contract until 2025 and I count on respecting it until 2025,” he said.

Disasi has also been linked with a departure, and in an interview with Goal, he suggested that his Monaco future was linked with qualification for the Champions League. “Thanks to Monaco, I became an international player. So I’m grateful to the club”, Disasi said. “Then, I’ll need to consider my future. To be called up by France, you need to play in the Champions League.

Responding to a question from GFFN’s Luke Entwistle, on Disasi’s remarks, Fofana replied, “You can stay at Monaco, play in the Champions League and play for the France national team. For Axel, his competitors are playing in the Champions League so I understand what he’s getting at. But you can stay here and qualify next season, that would be great, it would suit me.”
