Yannick Carrasco has requested Atlético Madrid’s board to leave, report Estadio Deportivo.
Despite playing regularly this season, the club have been planning to offload the 29-year-old for the past couple of months. Following their elimination from all European competitions this autumn, Los Colchoneros are keen to part ways with some of their players in order to balance the books.
The relationship between Atlético Madrid’s board and Carrasco has turned sour after the club decided against their initial decision to renew the Belgium international’s contract.
Carrasco’s contract is valid at the Estadio Metropolitano until June 2024, but both Atlético Madrid and the player hope that they can part ways in the January transfer window.
The Belgian winger re-joined Atlético Madrid in 2020 and was a part of the team that won the club’s 11th La Liga title in 2021. There are no particular clubs that have expressed a strong interest in signing Carrasco as of yet.
