RB Leipzig are close to completing a deal for Wolfsburg midfielder Xaver Schlager, according to Sky Germany.
The Bundesliga side will pay around €12m for the Austria international, as reported by Florian Plettenberg and Philipp Hinze. But until the deal is complete, RB Leipzig know about failed signings from Wolfsburg after the Maxence Lacroix deal failed at the final hurdle last summer.
It was originally suggested that Schlager would be a replacement for Konrad Laimer, who has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, but this doesn’t appear to be the case. RB Leipzig want to strengthen their midfield with the possibility that one of Tyler Adams or Amadou Haidara could leave the club.
Schlager was entering the final year of his contract at Wolfsburg and had been negotiating a contract extension, but the 24-year-old will now join Domenico Tedesco at RB Leipzig.
The Austria international played 1048 minutes across 14 Bundesliga games last season but struggled with injuries.
