Wolfsburg the latest German club to enquire about Gosens

Germany’s preeminent footballing publication reports that VfL Wolfsburg are exploring the possibility of a quick swoop for German midfielder Robin Gosens. 

Rumors are once again surfacing regarding a German club’s desire to bring Robin Gosens over to play professionally in his native country for the first time. Germany’s Kicker Magazine reported today that VfL Wolfsburg – having had their needs at left back accentuated as of late – contacted Inter Milan about the possibility of acquiring the 28-year-old.

As has almost always been the case in the past, the transfer fee constitutes the biggest stumbling block to the deal. Milan having paid €27.4 for Gosens means that the Serie A club isn’t keen on letting the defender go for a significant loss; even if his lack of playing time has pushed his estimated market worth back down to €18 million.

Wolfsburg, like any other potential new club, must also contend with the issue of Gosens’ salary. The player remains under contract with his current club through 2026 and may be reluctant to take a pay cut, even if playing in Germany counts as a lifelong dream for him. Kicker notes that the German club’s interest won’t necessarily translate into a long pursuit.
