An explanation for the surprise absence of star midfielder Oihan Sancet from Athletic Club’s latest matchday squad has on Sunday evening been provided.
Athletic marked their return to action a short time ago, welcoming RCD Mallorca to San Mamés for a La Liga clash.
When all was said and done, the two sides were forced to settle for a share of the spoils, owing to a 1-1 stalemate.
As alluded to above, though, playing no part in as much was Oihan Sancet.
Midfielder Sancet took his place back on the bench for Athletic’s Europa League meeting with AS Roma during the week, following a spell on the sidelines with a muscular injury.
In turn, it came as a surprise when, upon Ernesto Valverde’s finalised squad to face Mallorca being unveiled, the Spanish international was nowhere to be seen.
Speaking to the media ahead of kick-off, Valverde was therefore asked for an insight into Sancet’s wellbeing.
And, speaking to DAZN, in quotes sourced by Mundo Deportivo, Athletic Club’s headmaster went on to explain:
“Yesterday he had some discomfort in training, so it would be difficult for him to come on.”
