Serie A side Napoli are still keen on moving for Alejandro Garnacho but it seems as if they are close to sealing a move for Patrick Dorgu, who has been linked with Manchester United but could join the Partenopei now and return to the club from a loan deal at Lecce.
La Gazzetta dello Sport have, via CN24, provided some background to the negotiations, revealing that today will be a vital day in the discussions regarding the two players.
United executives will be in Italy today to speak about the two players, whose futures are connected not in the way one would think. It is not a case of the Red Devils seeing Dorgu as a replacement for Garnacho.
The outlet claim that United’s first meeting will be with Aurelio de Laurentiis, where the Argentine will be spoken about. The second will see them speak to Lecce technical director Pantaleo Corvino about Dorgu. The Dane remains Napoli’s priority signing for next season but if they fail to move for Garnacho, a move for Dorgu will be brought forward.
That will present an immediate threat to United’s chase of the 20-year-old. And if United do end up going for Dorgu, Alfredo Pedulla has suggested that this can unlock Garnacho’s sale as well. At the same time, Il Mattino believe that if the Red Devils manage to reach an agreement with Napoli for Garnacho, they could get a discount in their potential move for Victor Osimhen in the future.
The Nigerian has a release clause of €75 million but the Naples side could settle for a lesser fee from United, if they sell Garnacho.
