Since the Spain national team training camp began at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas on Monday, Gavi has been training with a protective helmet to avoid receiving any blows to his right ear, which he hurt in his last game with FC Barcelona (against Osasuna in Pamplona).
Gavi suffered a painful blow and needed five stitches to close the wound, but this has not prevented him from playing with Spain against Georgia on Friday.
“It’s already healing and it’s getting better”, explains Gavi to rfef.es. The national team doctor, Claudio Vázquez, helps him before each session so that the helmet fits well and doesn’t bother him. “I wear it, above all, so that I don’t get any blows because the stitches can pop out. It’s mainly for protection.”
The Spain international, who started for Spain in their Euro 2024 qualifier against Georgia, has admitted that he has got used to the helmet. “When it’s hot it’s a bit uncomfortable, but it’s fine, it’s comfortable,” he adds.
