Why history is already on Barcelona’s side in La Liga title race

Developments over the early weeks of the new La Liga season bode altogether well when it comes to the hopes of Barcelona of wrestling back their crown.

This comes after arch rivals and reigning champions Real Madrid dropped points once again.

Carlo Ancelotti’s troops marked their return to acton on Thursday night, making the trip to Gran Canaria for a meeting with Las Palmas.

When all was said and done, however, a lacklustre display saw Los Blancos forced to settle for a share of the spoils, in a 1-1 stalemate.

Their 2nd draw from three to open the campaign, Real, in turn, have already slipped a full four points behind table-topping Barcelona.

And, as alluded to above, when taking a look at recent history, this bodes hugely well for Hansi Flick’s Blaugrana.

As revealed by statistician Pedro Martin:

‘4 points may seem like few, but it is no joke. Real Madrid have not won a league title after falling 4 points off Barça in any matchday since the 2006-07 season.’
