Serie A giants Milan are being investigated by the Guardia di Finanza as part of questions surrounding their ownership and while the case has just started off, certain possibilities regarding the future do exist.
La Gazzetta dello Sport today have provided some details about the scenario, stating that the prosecutors in Milan are yet to receive documents of the way forward about the investigation from the FIGC. While it will arrive in the next few days, no one is said to be in a hurry.
We are still in the early stages of the investigations, so it difficult to suggest what the Rossoneri will be at risk of. But current regulations still paint a rough picture of what could possibly go wrong.
Both Ivan Gazidis and Giorgio Furlani are under investigation. They are accused of ‘obstructing the exercise of the public functions of the supervisory authority ‘, namely the FIGC, in this case.. If the hypothesis was verified, there would be a violation of article 32 paragraph 5 of the Sports Justice Code on communication obligations, directly linked to article 20 which regulates the “Acquisitions and sales of company shareholdings in the professional field.”
More documents could yet reveal more in the case and that could lead to more articles being violated. It is very difficult for any sanctions to arrive this season, so the current Serie A table will not change unless something dramatic happens. Exclusion from European competitions is a rather remote possibility, but the offences would likely lead to a fine or a Financial FairPlay related sanction, which can only be decided later.
