To much fanfare, Eintracht Frankfurt rolled out one of their long sought-after signings on Thursday evening.

Some four months after a deal for him collapsed near the end of the September transfer deadline, Eintracht Frankfurt have secured the services of French striker Hugo Ekitike. The SGE – who acquired the 21-year-old at great expense on a short-term loan from PSG – staged a carefully calibrated media rollout for the French youth international on Thursday evening, building up the hype to his introduction with a series of “palindrome puns” on social media.
“Hugo is a young player who has already proven his great potential,” SGE sporting CEO Markus Krösche noted in one of the few written statements accompanying the highly visual rollout, “We were already convinced by him last summer and have not changed our mind. We are happy that the transfer worked out against the background of our economic conditions. We will of course give him the time he needs to settle in.”
