In a recent report, AS mentioned that West Ham United are among clubs hoping to sign Real Betis forward Borja Iglesias. It has been revealed that the Hammers are eyeing a move to bring the Spanish striker to the London Stadium this summer.

Iglesias’ Impressive Run Of Form In Spanish Football

Iglesias has produced a series of productive displays as the focal point of Real Betis’ attack. The 29-year-old has banged in 19 goals and grabbed two assists in 51 matches for the Spanish club this season in all competitions.

However, the Spaniard has sometimes struggled to find consistency in the final third based on his average of 1.2 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga.

He has also been a bit careless with his ball distribution after completing 71.1% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).

Is Iglesias A Good Fit For West Ham United Boss David Moyes?

Iglesias can be a decent goal-getter in the final third when he is playing with confidence on the field. However, he has sometimes struggled to contribute in any other meaningful way in the opposition half.

The Spanish talent needs to improve his link-up play if he wants to be a success story at a club like West Ham. He will no doubt serve as a decent backup to Michail Antonio who remains David Moyes‘ only recognised senior centre-forward ahead of this summer transfer window. At 29, the Real Betis marksman has still got a few good years left in him to play at a high level but there are some concerns over whether he would be able to make a smooth transition to English football.

Iglesias will add more goals to the Hammers‘ frontline and could help them cope with fixture congestion better in the coming seasons. The Spaniard will be a decent fit for Moyes’ style of play at the East London club as long as he can improve his passing in the final third. Therefore, West Ham should prioritize on getting a deal done for Iglesias when the transfer window reopens later this year.
