Rennes centre-back Arthur Theate (24) is set to join Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ittihad, according to a report this Thursday by Fabrizio Romano. The Belgium international was expected to leave Brittany this summer transfer window after only two seasons with Les Rouge et Noir. Rennes are due to receive a €18m transfer fee. The Ligue 1 club will recoup the vast majority of the €20m fee they paid Bologna in 2022. Arthur Theate was tied with Stade Rennais with a contract set to expire in 2027.
Fabrizio Romano understands that Rennes and Al Ittihad have reached an agreement regarding the player’s move and that personal terms have been agreed with Arthur Theate. The Belgium international has already completed his medical with Al Ittihad, which has announced former AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli as their new manager.
The Italian journalist adds that Premier League outfit West Ham United were keen to acquire the services of Arthur Theate, who played in three of the four games of the Belgium national team at the Euros. The 24-year-old centre-back is set to sign a three-year contract with an option for a further year.
