West Ham United have formally tabled an offer to secure the services of Ronnie Edwards from Peterborough United, according to Standard Sport.
Negotiations are underway between the two clubs to determine the fee to facilitate the move.
West Ham manager David Moyes is keen to bolster his defence with another addition and has turned to the 20-year-old.
Edwards has garnered substantial attention as a promising defender. Notably, he contributed to England’s Under-19 European Championship victory last summer.
Also, he represented the Three Lions at the Under-20 World Cup months ago. He has top potential that can burgeon into something special with refinement.
The young defender’s skills have not gone unnoticed. Chelsea and Crystal Palace were reportedly interested in him last year, but nothing materialised. However, he could be on the move this summer.
Edwards’ omission from Peterborough’s Carabao Cup victory over Portsmouth last night has fuelled speculations surrounding his transfer.
While Moyes has already secured Konstantinos Mavropanos as part of his summer signings, the manager is keen on covering the injury-prone nature of his centre-back options by adding Edwards.
Also, West Ham want to secure another attacker, and there are ongoing talks with Corinthians for forward Yuri Alberto.
Tim Steidten is in Brazil to sign the attacker as they look for reinforcement following the departure of Gianluca Scamacca, Nikola Vlasic, and Manuel Lanzini.
However, both parties have yet to agree a fee for the 22-year-old. Personal terms will likely be a smooth negotiation.
West Ham are also pursuing Paris Saint-Germain forward Hugo Ekitike, although Eintracht Frankfurt hold the upper hand in the race for the striker.

PSG want Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani and want to pawn Ekitike to the German side to secure their target.
West Ham can only sign one attacker and will have to pick between Alberto and Ekitike. They are in advanced talks for Alberto and will likely sign him over the Frenchman.
