Werner and Kampl pleased with return to form

RB Leipzig duo Timo Werner and Kevin Kampl admitted that not everything was perfect in today’s 3-2 win over Augsburg, but were pleased to extend their winning streak to three games.

They had to fight hard for it, but in the end RB Leipzig held on for a 3-2 win over Augsburg today.

After conceding an early goal, Leipzig bounced back to take a 3-1 lead at the break. Augsburg pulled one back in the second half, but couldn’t stop Die Roten Bullen from taking all three points.

The result means Leipzig have now won three in a row since ending a three-match winless streak with a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund 10 days ago.

“It was a good performance from us all in the first half. We were all a bit frustrated with how the recent games had gone up until the Dortmund game, when things weren’t going too well. I think we were all a bit drained,” said Timo Werner, who was involved in all three Leipzig goals, scoring a brace and providing an assist.

“Not everything went as well as we’d have liked in the second half, but at the moment we are finding ways to win however we can. That gets us to where we want to be,” he added.

Kevin Kampl was pleased to see Leipzig bounce back from Augsburg’s early goal, but thought things got a little too exciting towards the end of the game.

“We conceded with their first shot on goal, which is obviously frustrating. But we remained calm and kept working. Our reaction was superb and we levelled the game,” said Kampl, who recorded a goal and an assist.

“I think we made the game unnecessarily exciting in the second half. We shouldn’t have done that; we shouldn’t have allowed the game to be so open. We needed to be cleaner in our play. The way the fans pushed us after conceding the early goal was really good. We’re back in a good run of form.”

Leipzig currently sit third in the Bundesliga, level on points with Union Berlin, who face Bochum at home tomorrow.
