Werder Bremen will be without Romano Schmid for their Bundesliga opener against Wolfsburg tomorrow.

‘The Green Whites’ have announced today that the midfielder will miss the game due to a positive COVID-19 test.

“This is bitter for us, especially because Romano has had a good pre-season and was in good shape. He is showing symptoms at the moment, but we hope he can rejoin the team as soon as possible,” said head coach Ole Werner.

New signing Jens Stage is expected to replace Schmid in the starting eleven, with the Dane set to make his Bundesliga debut following his summer transfer from FC Copenhagen.
