Amos Pieper will have to spend several weeks on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery, Werder Bremen confirmed on Wednesday.
The Bundesliga club revealed that the 28-year-old centre-back suffered a deep flesh wound to his right knee during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.
“As Amos had been complaining of increasing pain in his knee, further examinations were carried out, during which an infection was found, making the procedure necessary,” said Werder Bremen coach Horst Steffen.
“Fortunately, no structural damage to the knee was found. We hope that Amos will be fit again as soon as possible. However, he will be out of action for several weeks.”
Pieper has made 12 appearances for Werder so far this season.
