Watford in discussions with Valerien Ismael over improved new deal

Watford are reportedly in talks with manager Valerien Ismael over a new and improved contract. 

The 47-year-old took charge of the club in May, replacing Chris Wilder in the hot seat. 

And despite a mixed start to the new campaign, the hierarchy are said to be ready to reward him with a new deal. 

Saturday’s 2-0 success over Birmingham City lifted the Hornets to 11th in the Championship standings. 

That was their second victory of the season, with the Hertfordshire outfit losing two and drawing two of their six matches so far. 

According to The Athletic, Watford are currently in exploratory talks with Ismael over a new and improved deal. 

They are said to be impressed with the performances, training methods, and an improvement in squad unity and discipline since the Frenchman took over as manager. 

The club’s move is surprising considering they have a reputation for sacking head coaches in very little time. 

Rob Edwards was at the helm of affairs when the last season began, but the former Wales international soon found himself replaced with Slaven Bilic. 

Bilic lasted from late September to early March before he also departed Vicarage Road, making way for Chris Wilder. 

Ismael replaced the former Sheffield United boss in the summer, and now it looks the Hornets’ intention is to stick with him for a longer period. 

This seems like a good decision as their previous approach of constantly changing managers hasn’t produced good results.
