German Football Association sporting director Rudi Völler has given an update on the search for a replacement for Hansi Flick, who was sacked as Germany coach yesterday.

“The most important thing is that we find a coach relatively quickly. We want to create a certain euphoria. The only way to get that is with results. With a new person, that’s absolutely possible. Hansi carried the burden of the World Cup elimination with him,” Völler said at a press conference ahead of Tuesday’s friendly against France.

“We have already had discussions. I’ve already talked to members of the task force. Of course there are names. But I’m not going to discuss names now. It’s important that we come up with a name in three and a half weeks. There will be more discussions and meetings,” he added.

Asked about reports suggesting that Julian Nagelsmann is among the candidates for the job, Völler responded:

“Of course there are names that come into question. Of course Julian Nagelsmann is an absolute top coach”.

Together with Hannes Wolf and Sandro Wagner, Völler will be in charge of the team that will face France tomorrow.
