Vincent Ponsot has officially been appointed as the new General Director of Lyon Women, the club have confirmed. The former General Manager of the club has made the switch to take charge of the Women’s football operations. His appointment has been agreed upon by new majority shareholder Michele Kang.
The director will start to assume his responsibilities in the coming weeks before officially taking the role with full effect from the 3rd of January 2024. Ponsot has been entrusted with realising Michele Kang’s vision for women’s football at the club. Ponsot has been seen as a controversial figure by many fans at the club for his dealings as general manager. Many former players and staff of the club have criticised his way of working, including Moussa Dembélé and Juninho.
John Textor will now begin to look for a sporting director at OL following Ponsot’s departure from the operations of the men’s team. Speaking about Ponsot’s new appointment, Michele Kang said, “Vincent’s leadership will help us realize our vision to build the best global organization while elevating women’s football globally.”
