Villarreal star undergoes successful ACL surgery

La Liga outfit Villarreal have confirmed that Ilias Akhomach has undergone a successful procedure on his knee.

This comes after the Moroccan was the victim of a devastating injury setback last weekend.

En route to a 3-1 La Liga downing of Las Palmas, Akhomach went to ground in evident distress late in the first-half of action.

After being stretchered from the field of play, the former Barcelona talent was subsequently put through a round of medical tests and scans at Villarreal’s medical centre.

And as much revealed the worst, in the form of confirmation that Akhomach had suffered a complete tear of the ACL in his right knee.

The 20-year-old, in turn, went under the knife on Friday, to kickstart what is set to be a long and arduous journey back to the pitch.

And, as per an official statement across Villarreal’s website and social media platforms this evening, the procedure proved a complete success:

‘Ilias Akhomach underwent surgery today to repair a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee performed by Doctor Joan Carles Monllau in Barcelona, ​​accompanied by Villarreal CF’s medical staff.
