La Liga outfit Villarreal have confirmed that Ilias Akhomach has undergone a successful procedure on his knee.
This comes after the Moroccan was the victim of a devastating injury setback last weekend.
En route to a 3-1 La Liga downing of Las Palmas, Akhomach went to ground in evident distress late in the first-half of action.
After being stretchered from the field of play, the former Barcelona talent was subsequently put through a round of medical tests and scans at Villarreal’s medical centre.
And as much revealed the worst, in the form of confirmation that Akhomach had suffered a complete tear of the ACL in his right knee.
The 20-year-old, in turn, went under the knife on Friday, to kickstart what is set to be a long and arduous journey back to the pitch.
And, as per an official statement across Villarreal’s website and social media platforms this evening, the procedure proved a complete success:
‘Ilias Akhomach underwent surgery today to repair a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee performed by Doctor Joan Carles Monllau in Barcelona, accompanied by Villarreal CF’s medical staff.
‘The recovery time will depend on the evolution of the player. The club conveys its full support to the Morocco international and wishes him all the best for his recovery. Best wishes, Ili!’
