Alex Freeman is already a new Villarreal player. The American full-back becomes a new reinforcement for the Castellon side after signing a long-term contract that ties him to the club until June 2032. It is a present and future investment by the La Plana club in a league to which it is not the first time it has turned.
The signing of Freeman, for which Villarreal will pay 3.2 million euros and which could be increased by another two million if a series of complicated objectives are met, including the achievement of some title, had been on the agenda of the “submarine” for some time. Last summer, the “submarine” already tried to sign him, but on that occasion, Orlando City refused to sell him. Freeman, 21, is already a full international with his country, will play in the World Cup next summer and has recently been voted MLS Young Player of the Year.
His arrival comes months after the signing of Tani Oluwaseyi, who Villarreal signed this past summer from Minnesota United, another North American MLS franchise. It should be remembered that the Yellow Submarine was already a pioneer in its day in terms of media signings in US soccer with the acquisition of Jozy Altidore, for whom they paid close to 8 million euros in the summer of 2008. A record figure at the time for the North American league.
