Speaking to kicker, VfB Stuttgart striker Deniz Undav commented on their opening Champions League game against Real Madrid on Tuesday night.
On travelling to the Bernabeu, a stadium synonymous with the Champions League, Undav said:
“We can’t shit our pants. We have to go into it with a clear head and imagine that we can win. Otherwise we have no chance.”
The striker then added:
“If you’re afraid of Real Madrid because it’s Real Madrid, then you’ll lose. Then you don’t even need to fly there.”
Last season, Union Berlin also travelled to the Spanish capital in their opening game of the Champions League and nearly got a result if it were not for a late Jude Bellingham goal to give Real the win.
Stuttgart have had a slow start to the Bundesliga season, losing their first game and drawing their second but at the weekend they beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-1 with goals from Undav and striker partner Ermedin Demirovic. However, Stuttgart are currently dealing with several injuries, Frans Krätzig is currently out as well as other summer signings Ameen Al Dakhil, Justin Diehl and Leonidas Stergiou.
After VfB’s trip to Spain, they host Sparta Prague at the MHP Arena.
