It was this time last year that Yorbe Vertessen made the move from Eredivisie’s invincibles PSV to relegation-threatened Union Berlin. He made a quick impression by setting up the winner against Hoffenheim before scoring his first Bundesliga goal in a memorable 2-1 win over Werder Bremen.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t continue on his strong start as he only managed to net five goals in 32 appearances for the club. “My time at Union was an intense and educational experience. It was full of ups and downs, and avoiding relegation on the last matchday was a moment I will never forget.” says the striker in his last interview with Union Berlin.
RB Salzburg pay €4 million for a permanent transfer as he embarked on his fourth different league at the age of 24. In the closing stages of the deadline day, Union Berlin are also working on Jordan’s transfer to Stade Reims. The Ligue 1 club previously had another US striker in Folarin Balogun.
