Wout Faes (27) was unveiled as an AS Monaco player on Wednesday. The Belgian has signed on loan from Leicester City. The deal includes a buy option, the value of which has just been revealed by Foot Mercato.
Faes joined ASM after a difficult start to the season at Leicester City, where he found himself on the fringes of the first-team set-up.
“Honestly, there was a desire to leave, from both sides. [Last summer] there were contacts with a few clubs, but that didn’t happen, and then the manager (Martí Cifuentes) reintegrated me. For one reason or another, it didn’t work out,” said the Belgian in a press conference attended by Get French Football News.
Faes has been a long-term target for the Principality club, with talks between the Ligue 1 side and the defender’s agent taking place over the “past two or three transfer windows”, the Belgian revealed. However, whether he stays at Monaco at a long time is another question. For now, he is only on loan, although the deal could be made permanent at the end of the season for a fee of €8m, Foot Mercato understands.
