In an official statement, Valenciennes have reported that their assistant coach, Orlando Silvestri, was attacked by a steward during a pitch invasion. Following Lyon’s qualification to the Coupe de France final, fans of Les Gones poured onto the pitch in an outburst of emotion and jubilation.
Despite the moment of rejoice, scenes appeared to have got out of control with the Valenciennes assistant coach reporting he was attacked by a steward during the celebrations. Silvestri was allegedly tackled to the ground and hit by a security guard at the Groupama Stadium for no valid reason.
Clubs working together
Valenciennes have condemned the actions against one of its members of staff and fully supports Silvestri in the matter. Following the incident, the former Valenciennes player has filed a complaint to the police. Both Lyon and Valenciennes are working together to investigate the situation and understand what happened further.
