Driven by the ambition to bring Valencia back to the top mentions of La Liga, Gennaro Gattuso will be embarking on a rigorous mission, where signing players—suitable to the manager’s demands—is considered the primary step.
According to journalist Alfredo Pedullà, Gennaro Gattuso has identified Napoli‘s Diego Demme as a potential transfer target ahead of the 2022 summer transfer window.
The report understands that Gattuso likes Demme, and the player is willing to leave Napoli this summer. Making only 19 appearances (equal to 686 minutes of football) in Serie A last season, the midfielder never managed to cement his place in the starting line-up.
As far as the player’s future is concerned, he is unlikely to get enough game time at Napoli in the 2022/23 season. Eintracht Frankfurt have tried to establish a connection with the club over the signing of the German, but Valencia has emerged as a favourite in the race for the 30-year-old.
In Demme, Gattuso will get an experienced head, which is additional to the player’s top-class skillset. The uncertainty around his future at the club will reportedly clear in the coming days.
The midfielder has a contract with the Naples-based side until June 2024, but the gap between Demme’s resolution and Luciano Spalletti’s intentions is thought to be unbridgeable.
