In a recent report, Football.London offered an update on Chelsea and their pursuit of Sevilla defender Jules Kounde. It has been mentioned that the Blues are yet to hold official talks with the Spanish club over a potential deal for the French centre-back.
Kounde’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football This Season
Kounde experienced another solid campaign at the Andalusian club after he put in a run of dominant displays at the centre of Sevilla’s backline. The 23-year-old participated in 44 matches for the Spanish club last season when he scored three goals and secured one assist in all competitions.
The Paris-born talent has been a dominant presence on the defensive end of the pitch based on his average of 1.3 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 3.1 clearances per game in the recently concluded La Liga campaign. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 88.9% in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).
Should Chelsea Head Coach Thomas Tuchel Step Up His Efforts To Land Kounde?
Kounde is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears his lines when in danger of being caught out at the back and doesn’t hesitate to put his body on the line to block a goal-bound shot from the opposition.
The France international excels at playing his way out from the back. However, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form in Premier League football if the Blues manage to get him on board in this off-season.
At 23, Kounde will only get better with each year, so Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel would be wise to step up his efforts to recruit the Sevilla star ahead of the new campaign.
The French sensation will enhance the quality of the West London club‘s defensive department and could help them close the gap to Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of English football in the coming seasons.
